Dreaming of an alarm

Dreaming of an alarm

For the past months, I have been exploring what makes the perfect morning routine. It all start obviously with waking up but what I realised was that I needed the perfect tool to get me out from my slumber.

Like many people, I use my mobile phone to do most things during the day from meditation on YouTube to searching for where I would love to go next on holiday. Don’t laugh, a girl can dream even during lockdown!!! Waking up was no different, I also used my phone to set the right time to start my day.

PROCRASTINATION HELL

Being prone to procrastination, I decided that using my mobile phone was just too dangerous. I would just spend hours scrolling down Instagram and YouTube videos. From watching a video sent by a friend about little kittens, I would then watch another video on little baby dogs and then babies with their baby pets…. Sometimes I would just watch video clips of Bridgerton on Instagram for ages. As a result, hours after my alarm has rang, I am still in my bed, angry at myself for wasting my morning in my PJ’s. I knew I had to find a solution. I decided to plug my phone in another room to avoid temptations. Now I needed an alarm clock to wake up.

TOO MANY CHOICES

Alarms clock have come a long way in recent years and the huge amount of options available are just mind boggling. We have move so far away from the traditional ticking hands round clock that we all know. The shelves of the shops are now stocked with an extensive amount of crazy professor’s experiment looking objects. While some have the benefits to make waking up feel like a dream, others sounds like pure torture. Some weird inventors thought it would be great to have to perform 30 curl ups or 10 jumps on the floor to turn off the alarm! This is definitely not how I was picturing my perfect morning when I started this journey. I wanted something easy to use, calming and motivating enough to leave the warmth of my bed.

MY FAVOURITE CLOCK

The one that caught my eye was incorporating light to help you wake up more naturally. It slowly brightens the room further to create the illusion of an indoor sunrise. The manufacturer explains that light triggers the body to produce hormones like cortisol, which help your body wake up. The light also informs your body that it is time to change its temperature and by doing so reduces the production of sleep induce chemicals like melatonin. This clock also wakes you up with fantastic natural sounds such as birds, waves, wind or rain. Sounds that would definitely put a smile on your face when you hear them and makes you feel at ease and in peace with your surroundings.

BIRDS SINGING

When I made the decision to use that type of alarms, I was then faced with a huge amount of potential perfect sunrise clock. From extremely expensive and complex to manipulate to simple and ugly. Eventually I found my happy medium and I now wake up with the sun rising 15 minutes before birds start to sing. Whatever wonderful dreams I have at night they are definitely nothing in comparison to the happiness I get from my new alarm clock.

Like me, start your morning routine with the perfect tool and you will see how easy it is to be happy in the morning.
